Le batizado ou baptême, c'est la première fois que le capoeiriste novice se présente "officiellement" dans une roda où se trouve de nombreux invités; il va jouer la capoeira avec un maître ou professeur présent qui le fera chuter, symboliquement ou non!!!! Le capoeiriste est alors baptisé et recevra sa première corde de couleur!!
Ceux qui ont déjà un grade peuvent éventuellement en changer lors du batizado.

Batizado or baptism denotes the first time a debutant capoeirista is 'officially' initiated into the roda, amongst numerous guests and capoeiristas of all levels of experiences.  Those to be 'baptized' enter the roda and play with a Mestre or instructor, who proceeds to trick, trip and/or sweep the debutant off their feet.  With this ceremony, the debutant capoeirista is given their first coloured cord.
Equally, the batizado also offers an opportunity for more advances capoeiristas to change grades.
